Severe Thunderstorm Areas This Saturday; Excessive Heat in the Southern U.S.

Damaging thunderstorm winds and a few tornadoes with areas of excessive rainfall are possible today over parts of the lower Great Lakes to upper Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic, the Ozarks, and south-central High Plains. The Systems and Facilities Division (SFD) manages the operations and maintenance of the various systems and facilities which support the NWS Western Region weather enterprise. Examples include Doppler Radar (WSR-88D), Automated Surface Observing Systems (ASOS), NOAA Weather Radio (NWR), Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), local and wide area networks, buildings, grounds, and towers, just to name a few.
