Back-to-Back Pacific Storms to Impact the West Coast; Heavy Snow in the Central Appalachians

Back-to-back powerful Pacific storm systems to impact the Pacific Northwest and northern California through the end of this week with heavy rain, flooding, strong winds, and higher elevation mountain snow.  Lightning Impact: Low
Occasional cloud-to-ground Lightning is expected. Flash rates will generally be <50 in 15 minutes for any storm covering a 20 square mile area.
 Lightning Impact: Moderate
Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is expected. Flash rates will be 50 to 99 in 15 minutes, for any storm covering 20 square miles. Scattered lightning-induced fires will occur. Persons not heeding indoor lightning safety rules may be injured during the peak of the storm.
 Lightning Impact: High
Dangerous Lightning Frequency Expected

Frequent to excessive cloud-to-ground lightning is expected. Flash rates will be 100 to 149 in 15 minutes, for any storm covering 20 square miles. Scattered to numerous lightning-induced fires will occur.

Persons not heeding indoor lightning safety rules may be injured during the peak of the storm. Residents caught outdoors must apply lightning safety or face possible injury or death.

Deadly Lightning Frequency Expected

Excessive cloud-to-ground lightning is expected. Flash rates will be >149 in 15 minutes, for any storm covering 20 square miles. Numerous lightning-induced fires will occur.

Persons not heeding indoor lightning safety rules may be injured, or possibly killed, during the peak of the storm. Residents caught outdoors must apply lightning safety or face certain injury or possible death.
