 Hail Impact Definitions
 Hail Impact: None
No Hail.
 Hail Impact: Low
Hail 1/4 inch (pea) to 7/10 inch (dime)

For hail driven by ≥50 mph, minor damage may occur to home siding or roof shingles. For hail duration of ≥5 minutes with fewer raindrops than hailstones, minor to moderate damage is possible to tender vegetation and early season crops, especially if the hail accumulates in fields.

Otherwise, no damage is expected from this size hail.
 Hail Impact: Moderate
Hail size: 7/8 inch diameter (nickel) to 1 3/4 inch diameter (golf ball).

For 7/8- to 1 1/4-inch hailstones: If driven by ≥50 mph winds, will cause minor to possibly moderate damage to shingles and siding on homes, as well as strip protective material from aircraft. If duration is at least 5 minutes, or is mixed with little rain, hail may accumulate in fields and cause notable damage to tender vegetation and early season crops.

For 1 1/2- to 1 3/4-inch hailstones: May dimple or dent metal and wood surfaces such as tin roofs and automobiles. If driven by ≥50 mph winds, will cause moderate to major damage to roofs, siding; will crack glass, especially if containing jagged edges. Persons caught in golf ball size hail may be injured.

Scattered crop damage in affected area, except potential destruction with duration of 5 minutes or longer and a low raindrop to hailstone ratio.
 Hail Impact: High
Very Large Hail size: 2 inch diameter (hen egg) to 2 3/4 inch diameter (baseball).

Roof damage possible to homes. Significant damage to finish of automobiles and protective material on aircraft, requiring repair. Will crack vehicle windows; jagged edges will shatter windows. If driven by ≥50 mph winds, could produce major damage to homes by denting siding and breaking windows. Persons caught in this size hail face certain injury and possible death. Potentially devastating damage to crops, if duration is ≥5 minutes. Any accumulation will destroy all tender vegetation
 Hail Impact: Extreme
Extreme Hail size: 3 inch diameter to 4.5 inch diameter (grapefruit).

Persons caught outdoors face certain injury and possible death! Signficant roof damage to homes possible, including penetration. Total loss of automobiles is possible from deep dents and complete window breakage. Costly damage to aircraft and watercraft, perhaps to the point of disrepair. If driven by ≥50 mph winds, could destroy homes by tearing into walls.

Potentially devastating damage to crops, if duration is ≥5 minutes. Citrus groves under such hail may face total losses. Any accumulation will destroy all tender vegetation. Trees and shrubs will be completely defoliated, in some cases destroyed.
