Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Central U.S.; Heat Building in the Western U.S.

A cold front pressing east across the central U.S. will be the focus for areas of strong to severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall through this weekend. Strong to severe thunderstorms my bring damaging winds, hail, and a few tornadoes while excessive rainfall may lead to areas of flooding. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through early Sunday morning for West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. Showers/storms look to be quite scattered, bit the potential for occasionally heavy rainfall has elevated flood concerns.
A Level 2/4 Excessive Rainfall risk continues Sunday for the Davis Mountains, Eastern Permian Basin, and Lower Trans-Pecos.
Rain chances increase today and tomorrow. The highest rain chances today (50-80%) will be in the Davis Mountains and the Permian Basin. The highest rain chances tomorrow (50-70%) will shift towards the Davis Mountains and Eastern Permian Basin. Flash flooding remains the primary concern, though isolated instances of damaging winds are also possible.
