Tropical Storm Mindy was a tropical cyclone that quickly developed along the northern Gulf coast of Florida. Thankfully, the short time to development limited the overall impacts across the area. However, strong wind gusts along the coast, and inland, did cause downed trees and some power outages. Very heavy rainfall near the center of the storm also caused areas of flash flooding.

Storm History
Information is preliminary and could change with the release of the National Hurricane Center's final report of Tropical Storm Elsa (found here when available).
Mindy was first labeled an area of investigation, 91L, on August 31 by the National Hurricane Center while is was in the southwest Caribbean, well north of Panama. Over the next five to seven days, the area disturbed weather would move northwest and eventually cross the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Throughout its path towards the southern Gulf, 91L would remain disorganized with development odds not climbing above 30%. By September 7th, it would be located across the southern Gulf Mexico. At this point, development odds began to increase as the area of disturbed weather became better organized. By Wednesday morning, 91L continued to improve in appearance, but it struggled to gain a semblance of a lower level circulation. Eventually it developed enough of a lower level circulation in the afternoon to be labeled a tropical storm. Also supporting this determination were sustained tropical storm force winds (1 min averaged) at NOAA buoy 42309. The storm would make landfall as a 40 knot tropical storm on September 8 at St Vincent Island, Florida. Mindy would parallel the Florida coast through the overnight hours and depart the forecast area before sunrise Thursday September 9. The primary impacts from Mindy across the forecast area were strong wind gusts, especially along our coastal communities, and very heavy rainfall in the vicinity of the center.

Wind and Rainfall Reports
Information These wind reports are considered preliminary, a final listing of maximum winds will be listed in NHC's final tropical report after the end of the season.
Radar estimated rainfall from Mindy. As Mindy was developing early Wednesday, heavy rain spread over the Panhandle counties. When Mindy became a tropical storm Wednesday afternoon, and moved inland, the heaviest rain was mostly along the center and transitioned northeast. | For the limited time Mindy had to develop, tropical storm force wind gusts spread surprisingly far inland. Thankfully, the limited time for development kept also meant the wind field was quite small. Aside from Leon county, the strongest winds remained offshore and along our coastal counties. |
