NOTE: We have changed the number of classes starting in 2023. In several counties, we will now host a class only every other year. If the county you reside in is not on the class schedule below, there will likely be a class in your area in 2025.
However, anyone is welcome to attend ANY in-person class (regardless of the county in which they reside) or can register to attend a virtual class. All classes are free and open to the public.
Meteorologists from the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa conduct these storm spotter and community severe weather safety sessions each year to help prepare spotters and communities for the upcoming severe weather season. The NWS often conducts these events in partnership with the local emergency management officials.
*For those wanting to learn more about storm spotting, the science of severe storms, and some radar interpretation, we will be offering one extended class virtually this year that will include advanced SKYWARN material.
If you're interested in becoming a spotter and cannot attend any of the available classes listed below, feel free to take this online course.
