IN THE MID 90S TO NEAR 100 DEGREES. IN AT LEAST NINE LOCATIONS...HIGHS IN THE LAST

SOME LOCATIONS THAT SAW THE WARMEST OCTOBER TEMPERATURES SINCE 1963 OR 1954.

SINCE OFFICIAL RECORDS STARTED. HOWEVER...IN LOOKING AT OTHER HISTORICAL DATA...THESE
WARM TEMPERATURES DID OCCUR IN OTHER YEARS BEFORE OFFICIAL RECORDS BEGAN. FOR EXAMPLE...
IN OCTOBER 1856...AND AGAIN IN OCTOBER 1858...TEMPERATURES AT LITTLE ROCK WERE IN THE
MID AND UPPER 90S DURING THE FIRST WEEK. ON OCTOBER 2ND 1856...THE TEMPERATURE AT
LITTLE ROCK WAS REPORTED TO BE 98 DEGREES...WITH 97 ON THE 1ST...AND 93 ON THE 3RD.
ON OCTOBER 3RD 1858...THE TEMPERATURE AT LITTLE ROCK TOPPED OUT AT 94 DEGREES.

.DIURNAL RANGES...
AS OF LATE...DIURNAL RANGES...OR THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HIGH AND
LOW TEMPERATURE...HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANT. MANY LOCATIONS HAVE SEEN A TEMPERATURE
SWING OF 40-50 DEGREES IN 24 HOURS. THIS IS QUITE COMMON DURING TIMES WHERE
RAINFALL HAS BEEN LACKING...AND THE GROUND IS DRY. FOR EXAMPLE...DURING THE
LONGER-DURATION DROUGHT IN JUNE 2012...WHEN MOST AREAS SAW SOME OF THE HOTTEST
JUNE TEMPERATURES EVER RECORDED...LOW TEMPERATURES WERE SOME OF THE COOLEST IN YEARS
AND DIURNAL RANGES WERE SIGNIFICANT FOR EARLY SUMMER.
YESTERDAY...THE DIURNAL RANGE AT LITTLE ROCK WAS 44 DEGREES. THIS WAS THREE DEGREES
SHORT OF TYING THE ALL-TIME RECORD DIURNAL TEMPERATURE RANGE FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER...
WHICH OCCURRED...INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH...DURING A SIMILAR DRY PERIOD IN OCTOBER OF 1963.
AT GILBERT...IN SEARCY COUNTY...THERE WAS A 52-DEGREE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 7 AM
TEMPERATURE OF 42 AND THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 94.
