...Potential State Record Set For Maximum Rainfall Caused By
Tropical Cyclones In Arkansas...

The Arkansas state record for maximum rainfall caused by tropical
cyclones or their remnants occurred between June 28-July 2, 1989
in Portland, Arkansas (Ashley County) where 13.91 inches of rain
was recorded. Records for this information go back to 1950.

Between July 14-July 16 as the remnants of Barry moved across the
state, the Murfreesboro 1 W Cooperative Observer recorded a total
of 14.58 inches of rainfall. If no other location records a
higher rainfall amount, this will become the new state record.

This information is preliminary and is subject to revision in the
coming days as additional information is received. Many thanks to
the dedicated observers that measured rainfall during this heavy
rainfall event.
