...A REVIEW OF 2021 WEATHER AND CLIMATE DATA FOR PINE BLUFF ARKANSAS...

SUMMARY
======================================================================
2021 AT PINE BLUFF WAS THE WARMEST YEAR IN FIVE YEARS. IT WAS A YEAR
THAT SAW THE HOTTEST TEMPERATURES (AND THE FIRST TRIPLE-DIGIT READINGS)
IN NEARLY SIX YEARS AND WAS ALSO A YEAR THAT SAW THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE
RECORDED IN 55 YEARS.

SPEAKING OF THE TRIPLE-DIGIT READINGS...PINE BLUFF`S RECORD STREAK CAME
TO AN END ON JULY 30TH, WHEN THE TEMPERATURE HIT 101 AFTER 2,183 DAYS,
OR 5 YEARS, 11 MONTHS AND 23 DAYS OF NO 100-DEGREE READINGS. THE PREVIOUS
RECORD WAS SHATTERED SEVERAL YEARS AGO, BUT WAS 1,132 DAYS OR 3 YEARS, 1
MONTH AND 5 DAYS BETWEEN JUL. 9, 1948 AND AUG. 14, 1951.

THERE WERE 35 DAYS WITH LOW TEMPERATURES AT OR BELOW FREEZING, WHICH WAS
THE MOST IN TWO YEARS. THERE WERE NINE DAYS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AT
OR BELOW FREEZING, WHICH WAS THE MOST IN 21 YEARS. THERE WERE 80 DAYS
WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES OF 90 DEGREES OR WARMER WHICH WAS THE MOST IN TWO
YEARS. DURING THE YEAR, PINE BLUFF RECORDED ITS COLDEST TEMPERATURE SINCE
1966, WHEN THE MERCURY FELL TO ZERO ON THE 15TH OF FEBRUARY.

IN TERMS OF DEPARTURES FROM NORMAL (OR COMPARISON WITH THE 30-YEAR AVERAGE
1991-2020), DECEMBER HAD THE MOST SIGNIFICANTLY ANOMALOUS WARMTH, WITH A
DEPARTURE OF +12.1. BY FAR, THOUGH, THE MOST SIGNIFICANT COLD WAS IN FEBRUARY,
WITH A DEPARTURE OF -10.7. IN TERMS OF ACTUAL TEMPERATURES, THOUGH, THE WARMEST
MONTH WAS AUGUST AND THE COLDEST MONTH WAS FEBRUARY.

2021 WAS THE FIRST YEAR IN FOUR YEARS WITH BELOW AVERAGE RAINFALL, AND THE DRIEST
YEAR IN SEVEN YEARS. THERE WERE 116 DAYS WITH MEASURABLE RAINFALL, WHICH WAS
THE FEWEST IN TWO YEARS. THE WETTEST MONTH WAS JUNE, AND THE DRIEST MONTH WAS
AUGUST.

SNOW FELL JANUARY AND FEBRUARY, BUT WAS ONLY MEASURABLE IN FEBRUARY. IT FELL
WITHIN THE SPACE OF FOUR DAYS, AND IT WAS A RECORD AMOUNT. THIS MADE 2021 THE
SNOWIEST YEAR IN PINE BLUFF SINCE 1966, AND THE 2ND SNOWIEST ON RECORD. SINCE
OFFICIAL RECORDS BEGAN IN LATE 1883, ONLY ONE OTHER YEAR HAS HAD MORE SNOW, AND
THAT WAS IN 1966 WITH 25.1 INCHES.
