SUMMARY

2021 AT NORTH LITTLE ROCK WAS THE FIRST YEAR IN 32 YEARS WITH A BELOW
ZERO TEMPERATURE. TRIPLE-DIGIT READINGS WERE AVOIDED AGAIN FOR THE 6TH
YEAR IN A ROW, AND THIS CONTINUED A RECORD STREAK OF NO 100-DEGREE DAYS
THAT BEGAN ON AUGUST 9, 2015 AND IS CURRENTLY UP TO 2,337 DAYS AS OF
THE END OF THE YEAR. PRELIMINARILY, THIS WAS THE WARMEST YEAR SINCE
2017. BY AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE, IT MOST RECENTLY TIED WITH 1988 FOR
THE 12 COLDEST ON RECORD. BY AVERAGE LOW TEMPERATURE, IT MOST RECENTLY
TIED 2020 FOR THE 18TH COLDEST YEAR ON RECORD. BY AVERAGE TEMPERATURE,
IT WAS THE 17TH COLDEST YEAR ON RECORD.

THERE WERE 38 DAYS WITH LOW TEMPERATURES AT OR BELOW FREEZING, WHICH WAS
THE MOST IN THREE YEARS. THERE WERE NINE DAYS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES AT
OR BELOW FREEZING, WHICH WAS THE MOST IN TEN YEARS, AND MOST RECENTLY TIED
2010 AND 1982 FOR THE 6TH HIGHEST AMOUNT ON RECORD IN A GIVEN YEAR. THERE
WERE 58 DAYS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES OF 90 DEGREES OR WARMER, WHICH, ALTHOUGH
IT WAS THE MOST IN TWO YEARS, WAS STILL BELOW THE ANNUAL AVERAGE OF 70. FOR
THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1989, NORTH LITTLE ROCK RECORDED A TEMPERATURE AT OR BELOW
ZERO DURING THE YEAR (FEBRUARY 16TH). THIS WAS THE COLDEST RECORDED TEMPERATURE
AT NORTH LITTLE ROCK IN 32 YEARS, AND MOST RECENTLY TIED DEC. 25, 1983 AND JAN.
11, 1982 FOR THE 3RD COLDEST TEMPERATURE SINCE RECORDS BEGAN IN LATE 1975.

IN TERMS OF DEPARTURES FROM NORMAL (OR COMPARISON WITH THE 30-YEAR AVERAGE 1991-
2020), DECEMBER HAD THE MOST SIGNIFICANTLY ANOMALOUS WARMTH, WITH A DEPARTURE OF
+11.1 DEGREES. BY FAR, THOUGH, THE MOST SIGNIFICANT COLD WAS IN FEBRUARY, WITH A
DEPARTURE OF -9.3. IN TERMS OF ACTUAL TEMPERATURES, THOUGH, THE WARMEST MONTH
WAS AUGUST AND THE COLDEST MONTH WAS FEBRUARY.

RAINFALL WAS ABOVE AVERAGE FOR THE FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW, THOUGH FOR THE FIRST
TIME SINCE 2017, THE ANNUAL TOTAL FAILED TO CRACK 60 INCHES. THIS MADE 2021
THE DRIEST YEAR SINCE THEN. THERE WERE 118 DAYS WITH MEASURABLE RAINFALL, WHICH
WAS THE LEAST NUMBER IN FOUR YEARS. THE WETTEST MONTH WAS OCTOBER, AND THE
DRIEST MONTH WAS AUGUST.

MEASURABLE SNOW FELL FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW. IT WAS ALL IN FEBRUARY, ALL
WITHIN AN EIGHT-DAY PERIOD, AND IT CAME IN RECORD AMOUNTS. IT WAS THE SNOWIEST
YEAR AT NORTH LITTLE ROCK SINCE 1979, AND THE 2ND SNOWIEST YEAR ON RECORD. IN
TERMS OF AVERAGE SNOW DEPTH, 2021 TIED SEVERAL OTHER YEARS FOR THE HIGHEST
AVERAGE SNOW DEPTH OF 0.2 INCHES. THE OTHER YEARS WERE 1988, 1979, AND 1978.
