A REVIEW OF 2020 WEATHER AND CLIMATE DATA FOR LITTLE ROCK ADAMS FIELD
SUMMARY
======================================================================
2020 AT LITTLE ROCK TURNED OUT TO BE THE COOLEST YEAR IN TWO YEARS. THIS
WAS LARGELY DUE TO HIGH TEMPERATURES. WHILE LOWS WERE THE WARMEST IN
THREE YEARS, HIGHS WERE THE COLDEST IN SIX YEARS. LITTLE ROCK SAW THE
FEWEST FREEZING DAYS IN 22 YEARS (SINCE 1998). HOWEVER, FOR THE FIFTH
YEAR IN A ROW, THERE WERE NO 100-DEGREE DAYS. AS OF DECEMBER 31, THIS
MARKS 900 DAYS. THIS IS THE LONGEST STREAK WITHOUT A 100-DEGREE DAY
SINCE THE PERIOD JULY 20, 1966 TO JULY 3, 1969 (1,080 DAYS). THE LONGEST
RECORDED STREAK OF DAYS WITHOUT A 100-DEGREE TEMPERATURE AT LITTLE ROCK
IS 2,524 DAYS FROM AUGUST 1, 1887 TO JUNE 28, 1894.
IN TERMS OF DEPARTURES FROM NORMAL (OR COMPARISON WITH THE 30-YEAR
AVERAGE), MARCH WAS WARMEST, WITH A DEPARTURE OF +3.8, WHILE OCTOBER
WAS COOLEST WITH A -3.0 DEPARTURE. IN TERMS OF ACTUAL TEMPERATURES,
THOUGH, THE WARMEST MONTH WAS JULY, AND THE COLDEST MONTH WAS JANUARY.
THOUGH THE ANNUAL RAINFALL AMOUNT WAS THE LEAST THAT HAS FALLEN IN THREE
YEARS, 2020 WAS STILL SIGNIFICANTLY ABOVE AVERAGE. PRELIMINARILY, IT WAS
THE 27TH WETTEST YEAR ON RECORD AT LITTLE ROCK. THERE WERE 134 DAYS WITH
MEASURABLE RAINFALL, WHICH WAS THE MOST SINCE 1957, AND THE THIRD HIGHEST
AMOUNT ON RECORD DURING A CALENDAR YEAR. ONLY 1882 (137 DAYS) AND 1957
(140 DAYS) SAW MORE. THE WETTEST MONTH WAS JANUARY, AND THE DRIEST MONTH
WAS NOVEMBER.
NO MEASURABLE SNOW FELL FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW. THIS ALSO MARKS 777
DAYS SINCE THE LAST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL. SINCE RECORDS BEGAN, THIS IS THE
3RD LONGEST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL DROUGHT AT LITTLE ROCK. THE ONLY TWO
PERIODS RECORDED THAT WERE LONGER WERE FEBRUARY 14, 1997 TO JANUARY 26,
2000 (1,077 DAYS), AND MARCH 6, 1989 TO JANUARY 6, 1994 (1,768 DAYS).
