Summary
====================================================================
Even though the annual temperature was just barely above average, 2018
at Pine Bluff turned out to be the coolest year in four years (since
2014). There was a 93-degree temperature range during the year, with
the hottest temperature reaching 98 degrees (July 1, July 26), and
the coldest temperature falling to 5 degrees above zero (January 17).
This January reading marked the coldest temperature recorded at Pine
Bluff since December 24, 1989.
Rainfall was frequent and excessive during the year. 2018 was the
wettest year at Pine Bluff since 2009, and the 3rd wettest year since
records began. There were 134 days with measurable rainfall (that is
rainfall of 0.01 of an inch or more). With the exception of January,
June, and July, all other months had a rainfall surplus. The wettest month
was February, followed closely by September. February also ended up being
one of the wettest months ever recorded at Pine Bluff since records began
in the city (1883). The driest month was June. For the first time since 2009,
rainfall exceeded ten inches in more than one month during the year.
Snow fell in January, April, November, and December, and was measurable in
January and November. This was the first year since 2016 with above average
snowfall. The April snowfall ended up being one of the latest ever recorded.
The November snowfall ended up being one of the earliest measurable snowfalls
ever recorded in Pine Bluff.

Jan. 17th - The low temperature of 5 degrees marked the coldest temperature
recorded at Pine Bluff since December 24, 1989.
Feb. 20th - The low temperature of 66 marked the warmest low temperature on
record in the month of February at Pine Bluff tying February 4, 2008 and
February 24, 1930. Also, the daily average temperature of 73.5
degrees was the warmest such reading since February 25, 1918 and the
2nd warmest daily average temperature on record for the month of
February. Apr. 8th - The low temperature of 30 degrees most
recently tied April 1, 1926 for the 4th coldest on record for the
month of April. Also, the daily average temperature of 40.5 degrees
was the 6th coldest on record for the month of April. Oct. 16th -
The high temperature of 49 most recently tied October 19, 1989 for

Feb. 21st - The 4.61 inches of rain that fell was the highest calendar day rainfall total
in the month of February since 1939, and the 2nd highest on record for the month.
Feb. 21st-22nd - The 4.65 inches of rain that fell in a 24-hour period was the highest during
the month since 1939, and also the 2nd highest on record for the month.
Aug. 19th-20th - 3.41 inches of rain fell in a 24-hour period. This is the highest 24-hour
rainfall in the month of August since 7.88 inches was recorded on August 30-31, 2012, and
the 5th highest 24-hour rainfall on record in the month of August.

Other Records Broken During the Year/Miscellaneous Phenomena

May 21st - A collapsing severe thunderstorm produced a 57 MPH wind gust. This
was the highest wind gust recorded at Pine Bluff since July 15, 2016, and the
highest wind gust recorded in May since May 24, 2015.
Sep. 21st - A strong thunderstorm produced a 55 MPH wind gust at the Pine Bluff
Airport. This set a record for the highest wind gust for the month of September.
The previous record was 47 MPH on September 3, 2008, which occurred as a result
of the remnants of Hurricane Gustav.
Nov. 25th - A 41 MPH non-thunderstorm wind gust was recorded.
