Summary
====================================================================
2016 at Little Rock was the warmest year since 2012, and by average
yearly temperature was the 3rd warmest year on record. Even though
rainfall was above average, it was the driest year in two years.
Rainfall was above average for the second year in a row.
Temperatures were warmer than average for just about the entire year.
The only significantly cooler periods were in May, and in December. By
departure from normal, March was warmest, and May was coolest.
Rainfall was mostly below average through the first couple of months.
However, this completely reversed in March and continued through April.
Over 20 inches of rain fell during this time period, ensuring the spring
season as one of the wettest ever recorded. Rain picked back up in middle
of summer, and July and August ensured that summer was, like the spring,
one of the wettest ever recorded. Rain diminished significantly in
September, with the fall season the driest in 63 years.
Snowfall was above average for the third year in a row. However, all the
measurable snow during the year came from one storm. Heavy snow fell in
central Arkansas during the overnight hours of January 21st and 22nd, with
over five inches. Except for trace amounts in mid-December, there was no
other snowfall during the year.

Jul. 22nd -The low temperature of 82 most recently tied July 31st, 2012 for
the 2nd warmest low temperature on record in the month of July. This reading
also most recently tied July 10th, 2016, and July 31st, 2012 for the 4th all-
time warmest low temperature at Little Rock. Also, the average daily temperature
of 93.5 most recently tied July 7th, 1998 for the 4th warmest daily average
July temperature on record, and the 5th all-time warmest daily average temperature.
Jul. 21st and 20th - The low of 81 degrees both days most recently tied July 18th,
2000 for the 3rd warmest low temperature on record in the month of July.
Aug. 1st-31st - The average monthly low temperature of 76.03 was the 4th all-time
warmest average monthly low temperature on record.
Sep. 9th and 13th - The low of 77 degrees both days most recently tied September
1st, 2013 for the 4th warmest lows on record in the month of September.
Dec. 19th - The low of 12 degrees marked the first record low in the month of
December since 2000.

Jul. 14th - A 68 MPH wind gust was recorded, which set a new wind gust record
for the month of July. The previous record was 56 MPH, recorded on July 27th,
1960. This also marked the highest wind gust at Little Rock since August 7th,
2011, and the 5th highest wind gust on record there.
