A week of hot temperatures and elevated humidity is expected across the state. Heat advisories are currently in effect through Thursday and even an extreme watch has been issued for parts of the state.
The heat risk for Monday and Tuesday will range from moderate to major across the state. Heat related illnesses are possible and of course stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest time of the day.
Forecast heat index values are expected to peak in the 90s to well over 100 degrees Monday and Tuesday. The hottest conditions are expected along the Arkansas River Valley and Mississippi Delta regions of the state, where heat index values will be over 105 degrees to around 110 degrees.
Dangerous heat will be building over the region this week and now would be a good time to remember that the temperature inside a car with closed windows can become deadly in a short amount of time. Remember, beat the heat, check the back seat!
