Heavy Rainfall and Severe Thunderstorm Threats for the Plains and Southeast

A frontal boundary extending from the western High Plains to the Southeast will focus additional showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Some of these storms may become severe, alongside frequent lightning, and isolated instances of flash flooding. April 2020 Tornadoes

Three separate tornado events occurred over the course of two weeks in April. 

The first tornado event occurred on April 12th when an EF4 tornado touched down in northern Walthall County, MS.  The last time an EF4 impacted the New Orleans/Baton Rouge forecast area was on December 6, 1983 in Laplace, LA. 

The second tornado event occurred on April 19th.  Three EF1 rated tornadoes were surveyed in Mandeville, LA, Dexter, MS, and McNeil, MS. 

The final event took place on April 23rd.  A high end EF2 tornado impacted portions of Amite and Pike Counties in Mississippi including the city of McComb, MS.
