Showers and thunderstorms will affect the area late this afternoon into tonight. Some storms could be severe, particularly across northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota into southwest Wisconsin. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. A tornado cannot be ruled out. Locally heavy rain may occur, leading to flooding and flash flooding.

Do not drive through flooded roads - turn around, don't drown!

This Evening: Severe Storm Risk

  • What: Strong to severe thunderstorms. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats.  A tornado cannot be ruled out.
  • Where: Northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, and southwest Wisconsin
  • Timing: 5 PM to midnight
  • Impacts: hail damage to property, crops possible. Winds could damage trees, down power lines
  • ACTION: stay weather aware! Take shelter when storms approach

Tonight: Flash Flooding Threat

  • What: Locally heavy rainfall 1-3" currently expected, locally higher amounts possible. 
  • Where: Mainly southeastern Minnesota and west central Wisconsin, however localized heavy rainfall could occur with any storms.
  • Timing: Tonight
  • Impacts: localized flooding. Ponding of water on roadways, storm sewers may backup. Mud and rock slides possible in hilly terrain. Rises on area rivers and streams
  • ACTION: If flooding is observed, move to higher ground. Never drive a vehicle across a flooded road - it could be washed out or car easily carried into flood waters. Exercise extreme caution at night - harder to recognize the dangers of flash flooding
