Summary of the Winter Storm on March 19, 2025. Contains PNS for Snow, Wind, and images/observations.
High impact late winter, early spring storm today bringing heavy wet snow to some, widespread rain to others, strong (potentially very strong) winds to all. Potential for white-out conditions where heavy snow and strongest winds overlap. Travel is not recommended where strong winds and heavy snow are forecast. Biggest impacts this afternoon.
Strong southeasterly winds combined with low relative humidity values and very dry fine fuels, have resulted in critical fire weather conditions in northeast Iowa. Elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions for southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin with slightly lower wind speeds and higher relative humidity values.
Ongoing snow slowly tapers off from west to east in the mid to late afternoon. Highest snow totals of 5 to 8 inches will be north of I-94 where there is a Winter Storm Warning in effect. Lesser amounts of 1-2" are expected to the south. Expect snow-covered roads and potentially hazardous travel conditions, especially in the warning area.
