Overview

A cold front moved across the region during the afternoon and evening of September 20, 2021.  Thunderstorms developed along this front during the early afternoon and advanced to the northeast before exiting the area mid evening.

The main hazard from the storms was wind gusts that produced damage with a couple reports of gusts exceeding 60 mph.

At least two tornadoes occurred - a brief touchdown in rural Olmsted Co., MN and just south of Strum, WI in Trempealeau Co.   A house and cabin sustained damage and a pole barn was destroyed.

The storms also produced some brief heavy rains with most rainfall totals averaging a half inch up to 1.25 inches.  With the recent dry conditions, only minor urban flooding was noted.
