On Thursday September 10th, 2009 the National Weather Service forecast office in La Crosse, WI hosted an open house during the afternoon and evening hours.
Like our open house in 2006, we had a wonderful day meeting people from around the region, showing them through our facility, and answering questions about our operations. Roughly 850 people visited our office and browsed through the different demonstrations and exhibits. There were also displays from other groups and agencies who partner with the National Weather Service during severe weather.
The La Crosse National Weather Service also conducted a food drive for the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse and collected roughly 650 pounds of donated goods, along with $127.25 in cash.
NWS La Crosse would like to thank everyone who attended, but especially our partners who participated and help us year round:
A special thanks also to those who donated items:
As visitors entered our building, they were greeted by staff members, given a chance to browse our informational and educational materials, and given demonstrations of our weather monitoring and warning computers/work stations. You can also see the food items being collected for the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse.

On our grounds, we had booths and displays showing our hydrologic (river) program, Cooperative weather observing equipment, Doppler radar tours, and refreshments. Our partners also had booths or were demonstrating their vehicles and equipment.
