Fayette County, Iowa was recently recognized as being 'StormReady' - a program run by the National Weather Service that recognizes communities, counties, or supporters for being pro-active when it comes to monitoring weather hazards and promoting safety.

Four (4) communities were recently reviewed, including West Union, Clermont, Fayette, and Elgin. A fifth community, Oelwein, has been StormReady since 2011.  Having all these communities recognized into the program designates the entire county (Fayette County) as StormReady.

A recognition ceremony was held during their firemen's association meeting on Thursday, November 10th at the West Union Fire Department, West Union, IA.

The StormReady program sets guidelines for items like communication, reception of NWS information, monitoring of local weather, warning dissemination, community preparedness, formal hazardous weather operations plans, and routine work with the local NWS office.
