Numerous tree limbs torn down by a thunderstorm downburst in Huntertown, Indiana on May 9, 2000. A downburst is a powerful gust of wind that suddenly rushes down out of a thunderstorm, strikes the earth, and spreads quickly out across the ground. Downburst wind speeds can exceed 100 mph, and are often mistaken as tornadoes. |
