Kansas Records 3rd Fewest January-May Tornadoes in 2014

While 2014 has recorded its share of tornadoes across Kansas, most notably the damaging Baxter Springs EF-2 on April 27th, much of the state has remained relatively tornado-free this spring. In fact, preliminary data from the Storm Prediction Center suggests only 13 tornadoes have touched down across the Sunflower State in 2014 through the month of May (since this number is preliminary, it may be subject to change). This is well below the 1990-2013 January-May average of 56 tornadoes, and ranks as the 3rd fewest January-May tornado count.
