June 2021 Climate Summary and Highlights

WICHITA EISENHOWER AIRPORT

The average monthly temperature of 77.4 degrees was 0.5 degrees warmer than a typical June. The warmest temperature was 102 degrees on the 20th, and the coolest was 53 degrees on the 1st and 3rd. Monthly rainfall totaled 6.36 inches, which was 1.43
inches wetter than a typical June. It was the wettest June since 2014. The highest calendar day rainfall was 2.18 inches on the 30th, which set a new record for the day.

SALINA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT

The average monthly temperature of 78.7 degrees was 2.5 degrees warmer than a typical June. The warmest temperature was 106 degrees on the 17th and 18th, and the coolest was 54 degrees on the 3rd. Monthly rainfall totaled only 1.01 inches, which was
2.74 inches drier than a typical June. It tied for the 6th driest June since records began in 1900, and it was the driest since 2016. The highest 24-hour rainfall was 0.86 inches on the 25th.

CHANUTE MARTIN-JOHNSON AIRPORT

The average monthly temperature of 77.9 degrees was 1.7 degrees warmer than a typical June. The warmest temperature was 100 degrees on the 17th, and the coolest was 54 degrees on the 22nd. Monthly rainfall totaled a whopping 11.91 inches, which was 6.29 inches wetter than a typical June. It was the 3rd wettest June since records began in the late 1800s, and the wettest since 2007. Interestingly, through June 20th, Chanute was experiencing one of its driest Junes on record, but this all changed when 11.49 inches fell during the final 10 days of the month. The highest calendar day rainfall was 5.87 inches on the 25th, which incidentally was the 7th highest calendar day rainfall ever measured at Chanute. It also set a new rainfall record for the 25th.
