June 2020 Climate Summary and Highlights

Summary

Overall, June 2020 was warmer and drier than normal across the region.

Wichita had an average monthly temperature of 80.3 degrees, which was 4.5 degrees warmer than normal. It was the 11th warmest June since official records began in 1889, and the warmest since 2018. Twenty-five days reached at least 90 degrees, which tied with 1911 for the most June 90-degree days on record. Precipitation-wise, Wichita tallied only 1.71 inches, which was 3.49 inches below normal. It was the 18th driest June on record, and the driest since 1998.

Salina had an average monthly temperature of 79.6 degrees, which was 4.0 degrees warmer than normal. It tied for the 13th warmest June since official records began in 1900, and it was the warmest since 2018. Twenty-four days reached at least 90 degrees, which tied for 5th most June 90-degree days on record, and the most since 1952. Precipitation-wise, Salina tallied 3.62 inches, which was 0.49 inches below normal.

Chanute had an average monthly temperature of 79.2 degrees, which was 4.6 degrees warmer than normal. It tied for the 8th warmest June since official records began in 1896, and it was the warmest since 2016. Twenty-one days reached at least 90 degrees, which tied for 7th most June 90-degree days on record, and the most since 1953. Precipitation-wise, Chanute tallied only 1.23 inches, which was 4.80 inches below normal. It was the 7th driest June on record, and the driest since 1988.
