2022 New Mexico Hydrology and Drought Review

Frequent bouts of winter weather during the start of 2022 fizzled out quickly through the spring months when extended periods of very dry and warm conditions impacted the region. Meager snowpack by late March struggled to survive through the harsh winds and low humidity during April and May. Snowmelt runoff was modest which stifled any hopes for recovery to low river and reservoir levels. The summer monsoon season kicked in dramatically by mid to late June with widespread moderate to heavy rainfall reported in many areas. Daily rounds of showers and storms produced locally heavy rainfall in many areas however a few dry spots did persist across parts of eastern NM and along the central mountain chain. A relative break in monsoon activity occurred in September before widespread moderate to heavy rainfall returned in October. Drought conditions improved statewide with the exception of some areas along the TX/NM border. Please enjoy our 2022 "Hydrology & Drought Status Review" for details on flooding, drought, snowpack, spring runoff, and reservoir levels.
