Severe storms will be possible Tuesday night as thunderstorms race across the state at speeds of 55 mph or higher. Large hail is the main threat with damaging wind gusts a secondary threat.
Thunderstorms from Tuesday night will be pushing eastward out of the state quickly Wednesday morning at speeds over 55 mph. Large hail is the primary threat with damaging wind gusts a secondary threat.
On Tuesday, winds from the southeast will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph. Winds won’t be quite as strong Tuesday night, but will stay elevated as thunderstorms move through the state. On Wednesday, strong winds will become from the southwest at 20 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph by the afternoon. Finally, winds will decrease Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
This week, we’ll close out the month of March and begin April with yet another week of active spring weather, including a few windy days Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition on Tuesday, light rain with some rain/snow mix enters northern Iowa with strong to severe storms forecast Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Conditions will be dry on Thursday with less wind.
