A strong low pressure system moved east northeast from southwest Missouri on Tuesday morning (February 5th) to east central Illinois on Wednesday morning (February 6th), and then continued to move across northern Indiana during the afternoon. Snow moved into northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin during the afternoon of the February 5th and the snow gradually increased in intensity during the morning and early afternoon of February 6th. Some thunder was reported across eastern Iowa, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin between 4 AM and 8 AM. This increased snow rates up to two inches an hour. There was a tight gradient of snow amounts across northeast Iowa, and southwest and central Wisconsin. The highest snow total was 18 inches in Sinsinawa (southern Grant County). Snow drifts of 2 to 3 feet were reported in Grant County. The map below shows where the snow fell and approximate snow amounts.
