Severe Thunderstorms and Possible Flooding Through This Weekend in the Central U.S.

Severe thunderstorms are forecast through this weekend along a slow moving cold front and secondary storm system that will impact areas from the southern Plains to the Great Lakes. Large hail and isolated damaging wind gusts are the main threats with these storms along with a risk for heavy to excessive rainfall which could bring flooding. Read More >

Overview:

The National Weather Service (NWS) - part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - offers opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students studying Meteorology or a related degree program to gain real-world, operational forecasting experience as a student volunteer. As a Weather Forecast Office, NWS Tampa Bay serves fifteen counties in West Central and Southwest Florida that have a combined population of approximately six million people. Additionally, Meteorologists provide forecasts and support for over 12 thousand square miles of adjacent coastal waters.
