...A WARM AND VERY DRY OCTOBER FOR THE NWS CHARLESTON FORECAST AREA...

Compared to the 1991-2020 U.S. Climate Normals, it was a warm and very
dry October across much of the NWS Charleston forecast area. Mean
temperatures for much of the area ended up 1 to 3 degrees (Fahrenheit)
above normal this October, with some locations trending closer to normal.
However, no top 10s were set at any of the official NWS Charleston
climate locations this October in terms of mean temperature. In terms
of precipitation, by and large it was an extremely dry month, with
widespread departures of 1 to 3 inches noted across the forecast area.
This translated into four official NWS Charleston climate locations
making the top 10 in terms of their driest Octobers on record, which
is outlined in the following paragraph.

Beckley, WV had its 2nd driest October on record, receiving only 0.27
inches of precipitation. This also made October 2024 the 6th driest
month on record at Beckley. Huntington, WV had its 2nd driest October
on record, receiving only 0.08 inches of precipitation. This also made
October 2024 the 3rd driest month on record at Huntington. Charleston,
WV had its 3rd driest October on record, receiving only 0.21 inches of
precipitation. This also made October 2024 the 4th driest month on
record at Charleston. Finally, Clarksburg, WV had its 10th driest
October on record, receiving 1.03 inches of precipitation.
