After quality control of the month's climate data, May 2018 has been named the hottest May on record across all six climate sites in Central Appalachia and the Middle Ohio Valley. May 2018 was generally humid with a summer-like pattern of diurnally driven showers and storms through the month. The City of Charleston, West Virginia was above average temperature for every day during the month as well.
 
For Beckley: A monthly average temperature of 67.7 degrees, which is 7.9 degrees above normal, breaks the old record of 66.6 degrees set in 1991.

For Charleston: A monthly average temperature of 72.0 degrees, which is 8.3 degrees above normal, breaks the old record of 71.7 degrees set in 1991.

For Elkins: A monthly average temperature of 67.1 degrees, which is 9.0 degrees above normal, breaks the old record of 65.2 degrees set in both 1991 and 1944. Elkins also recorded 8.08 inches of total precipitation, making May 2018 the 6th wettest on record.
