National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

In addition to their role of sharing of information as a core partner to the National Weather Service, the WV Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management was recently recognized as a 2019 Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador of Excellence for their efforts to promote a Weather-Ready West Virginia.

In particular, Director of Operations Paul Howard and Public Information Officer Lora Lipscomb were instrumental in the success of the 2019 Severe Weather Awareness Week campaign, which included the first statewide Tornado Drill in recent memory to be initiated by a live Tornado Warning.  Their efforts to raise awareness of the hazards of severe weather and flooding in the Mountain State goes year-round however with public information campaigns before significant weather events strike and their participation in National Preparedness Month.
