F-Scale Killed Injured County Location
  06/05/1961 1715 29 150 F2 0 1 Cimarron Near Felt - 15 S Boise City - between Dalhart and Stratford

This tornado was described as huge with two smaller tornadoes following behind it. The tornado may have formed in Union County in New Mexico before it crossed into Oklahoma about 6 miles west-southwest of Wheeless in Cimarron County. It moved southeastward across the southwestern portion of Cimarron County near Felt, eastward to about 15 miles south of Boise City, and then southeastward into the Texas Panhandle where it was reported to have dissipated between Dalhart and Stratford in Dallam County.

Grass in the path of the tornado had the appearance of having been scorched by excessive heat. A barn and outbuildings were damaged or destroyed on 2 farms, and utility lines and poles received extensive damage. An irrigation pipe was carried 0.5 miles from its original location. Hail up to the size of tennis balls caused heavy crop damage along the path of the tornado and eastward into Texas County. One man was injured by hail when he caught out in the open.

The tornado moved across the OK/TX state line into Dallam County, Texas about 30 miles north of Dalhart, and just a little west of U.S. Highway 385.vThe tornado was estimated to 450 to 1,000 feet or more in diameter. This tornado bounced along a 20-mile path in Dallam County as the tornado continued southeastward. Reports of two tornadoes trailing the larger tornado continued, and the smaller tornadoes also lifted above the ground occasionally. The larger tornado eventually dissipated in eastern Dallam County about 4 miles northwest of Conlen.

  05/18/1977 1250 38 440 F4 0 0 Cimarron OK/ Baca CO 8 SE Boise City OK- Keyes OK- 24 SE Walsh CO

This violent tornado touched down about 8 miles southeast of Boise City in the Oklahoma Panhandle during the afternoon hours on this date in 1977. The tornado moved toward the northeast until it brushed the west edge of Keyes. From Keyes the tornado continued toward the northeast, moved out of Cimarron County into Baca County, Colorado, and dissipated 24 miles southeast of Walsh.

The large tornado carved a path 38 miles long and up to a quarter of a mile wide. Witnesses described seeing two large tornadoes side by side at one point. Damage in Keyes was limited to corrals and a grain elevator. The main damage along the rural portion of the path was to a farm 4 mile southwest of Keyes where some outbuildings were destroyed. Hail up to the size of baseballs fell in a swath that was parallel to and west of the tornado track.
