Severe Thunderstorms were widespread across western and southern
Oklahoma from late afternoon and evening on the 8th until early morning
on the 9th. Hail up to golfball size was common with the storms. Two
tornadoes were also produced by the storms. The first tornado touched
down briefly 8 miles northeast of Butler, causing minor roof damage and
destroying a carport. The second tornado touched down briefly northwest
of Ratliff City with no reported damage. However, hail just smaller
than softball size associated with this storm caused damage to numerous
cars just east of Ratliff City. High winds were associated with a
severe thunderstorm in the Ardmore area. Just west of Ardmore
thunderstorm winds rolled over a building housing an antique shop and
destroyed several outbuildings. In the city of Ardmore strong winds and
large hail caused an estimated $130,000 damage. Near Union Valley
severe thunderstorm winds overtuned a mobile home, and killed livestock
at a farm. Two people were inside the mobile home when it overturned,
but neither were injured. In Norman, lightning struck a hay barn,
burning it to the ground and destroying the hay. Damage to the barn and
hay totalled $2000. East of Bokoshe thunderstorm winds caused damage to
power lines.

Severe thunderstorms developed across northwest Oklahoma during the
afternoon of the 9th along a weak frontal boundary. The storms became
severe, and in areas where thunderstorm outflow intersected the front,
weak tornadoes developed. These were determined to be landspout-type
tornadoes since Doppler Radar did not indicate them to be associated
with a mesocyclone. There was a total of 7 of these tornadoes that
developed during the afternoon and early evening of the 9th. All were
weak and although two had a 3 mile long path, they generally moved very
little, if at all during their lifetime. Of the 7 tornadoes, 5 were F0
and caused no damage, A tornado which developed 10 miles north of
Woodward was an F1 and destroyed a cattle shed, a barn, and 2
graineries, with a damage total of about $10,000. All of the other
tornadoes produced no damage (other than tree damage) except for one
tornado which moved from south southwest to just north of Ft. Supply
which killed 2 steers on a ranch, and damaged fences.

size and larger hail. The storms continued on to the morning hours of
the 12th. One particularly severe storm developed in Osage County and
moved through the Tulsa metropolitan area before weakening in Wagoner
County. Golfball to baseball size hail fell across a large part of the
cities of Tulsa and Broken Arrow between 625 PM CST and 7 20 PM CST.
Damage to homes and cars was estimated at several million dollars.
Strong winds near the Hulah Dam in Osage County blew down a tent.
Baseball size hail west of Loco caused significant damage to cars, and
severe thunderstorm winds damaged trees at Rubottom. Persistent
thunderstorms also produced very heavy rainfall which lead to flash
flooding in Rogers County. Nearly 6.5 inches of rain fell in the
eastern part of the county, with unofficial reports of as much as 9
inches. The heavy rainfall caused Dog Creek to overflow its banks
around 230 am on the 12th, forcing the closing of many county roads
east of Claremore and and north of state Highway 20. Some minor
flooding also occurred at a mobile home park in Catoosa. The rain
tapered off in Rogers county by around 330 AM CST and the water began
to recede by 5 30 AM.

Outflow from a dying thunderstorm complex in Texas formed a nearly
stationary boundary across southwest through portions of southwest,
central, and eastern Oklahoma during the afternoon and evening of the
16th. Thunderstorms, some of which became severe, continued to be
generated along this boundary. In Chickasha flooding from as much as 6
inches of rain caused several roads to be closed, and water damage from
flooding was reported in 16 homes. In southeast Oklahoma City, two
eight year old boys drowned when they fell into the rain swollen creek
they were playing near. The most serious flooding of the evening
occurred in the western portions of Lawton. An estimated 4 inches of
rain fell between 5 and 8 PM CST. Numerous low water crossing were
flooded to depths of 4 to 5 feet. At one of the crossings a man tried
to drive across a flooded roadway. His car was swept into Squaw Creek
and he, his wife and daughter were trapped in the car. The man and wife
were rescued and the man and the police officer who rescued him were
hospitalized, the wife was uninjured. The couples 9 year old daughter,
however, remained trapped in the car and drowned. The main flood damage
occurred along Squaw Creek and along Wolf Creek. Twenty-five homes and
three multifamily dwellings suffered water damage. Other flooding was
reported in Grady County at Ninnekah, where street flooding was
observed. Many reports of hail ranging from dime size to golfball size
were recived, and south of Lindsay and south of Lexington strong winds
from severe thunderstorms downed trees. (F09V)
Elsewhere in the state, a line of thunderstorms moved off the
mountains of New Mexico and Colorado and moved into the western
Oklahoma panhandle. One of the storms produced dime size hail northwest
of Felt, and another produced golfball size hail at Texhoma.

Severe thunderstorms developed over the central third of the state
during the afternoon of the 28th, and spread back to the southwest as
the evening went on. Many reports of hail from dime to golfball size
were received across Oklahoma City, as severe thunderstorms moved from
the northwest part to the southeast part of the city. Fortunately the
hail was rather soft, and no hail damage reports were received. However
thunderstorm winds downed trees 4 miles northeast of Harrah in Lincoln
County. As the storms spread to the southwest, 2 tornadoes developed in
southwest Oklahoma, south fo Granite and west of Blair. These tornadoes
touched down only briefly and no damage was reported. However, to the
north of Altus, golfball size hail caused significant damage to an
ambulance.

Severe thunderstorms were common across large portions of western, east
central, and central Oklahoma during the afternoon and evening hours of
the 10th, and the severe weather moved into eastern Oklahoma after
midnight on the 11th. High winds from a downburst downed power poles 6
miles west northwest of Edmond. Ten power poles in a row were snapped
off to the north across a 3/4 mile stretch of Edmond Road. Two
motorists were driving in this area when the poles were blown down. In
one vehicle, the pole fell on the car, injuring a passenger, and in
another a live power line fell on a motorists automobile, requiring him
to be hospitalization for electric shock.
A tornado was reported to have touched down briefly near Arcadia. The F0
tornado lasted 3 minutes and caused no damage. After midnight, near Davis,
severe thunderstorm winds ripped up trees and power lines, and caused roof
damage to several buildings. Damage was estimated at $40,000. East of
Stratford, severe thunderstorm winds ripped the roof off a mobile home.
In Tecumseh, an estimated 6 inches of rain caused roadway flooding as well
as flooding to an apartment complex. A 30 year old woman drove across
a flooded roadway in Tecumseh. Her car was swept off the road, and when
she tried to escape the car she was dragged under it and swept into a
culvert. She managed to pull herself out and was hospitalized for minor
injuries. In Perry, a man was injured when a lightning strike traveled
through the electrical system of his house and through an electrical
appliance the man was touching. The man was treated for minor burns and
released.

Severe thunderstorms occurred across portions of northeastern, central,
and southwestern Oklahoma on the afternoon and evening of the 2nd. The
greatest concentration of severe thunderstorms was across northeast
Oklahoma, where the most severe thunderstorm of the day produced a
tornado which moved through Tulsa and Rogers Counties. The tornado
first touched down 2 miles north of Collinsville at 1720CST. This
tornado caused minor roof damage and destroyed several outbuildings
near 166th Street North and 113th East Avenue. At this point the
tornado was 100 yards wide and F0 in intensity.
The tornado quickly strengthened to F3 intensity as it moved east
northeast to near 170th Street North and 129th East Avenue. Damage
in this area was extensive with 2 mobile homes destroyed, 4 homes
heavily damaged, and 8 homes with minor damage. There was 1 minor injury
in this area, and the damage path was 150 yards wide.
The tornado then weakened back to F0 intensity as it moved east across
the Caney River into Rogers County 6.5 miles southwest of Oologah at
1745CST. Damage in this area was confined to several large trees uprooted.
The tornado was 100 yards wide at this point and dissipated at 1747CST,
6 miles west of Oologah. The total path length of this tornado was 4
miles.
Also, thunderstorm winds gusting to 60 MPH nearly picked up a car off
the road 4 miles southwest of Sapulpa. Severe thunderstorm winds
knocked down trees and a traffic light at Adair. A tree was blown onto
a pickup truck near Grove. Severe thunderstorm winds also caused damage
to trees and powerlines at Greasy and Okmulgee, caused damage to trees
just west of Tecumseh, south and east of Lindsay, just east of Daisy,
4 miles west of Covington, and at Pittsburg.
An second area of thunderstorms moved southeast from Kansas into the
Oklahoma Panhandle. One of the storms produced ping-pong size hail in
Eva. The hail was reported by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Nickel
size hail fell just north of Eva according to a NWS Cooperative
Observer.

central and northwest Oklahoma. High water at Lake Carl Blackwell
topped the spillway and caused flash flooding downstream, mainly to
roadways.
In Southwestern Noble County, 5 to 6 inches of rain flooded streams.
Portions of Highway 77 were flooded. A man who attempted to
drive across a flooded roadway in Noble County was washed off the
roadway and had to be rescued. In the area from Enid to Covington

Severe thunderstorms were widespread across central and south central
Oklahoma, with a few severe storms across the southeastern portion of
the state.
A strong (F2) tornado developed across Mc Clain County at 1715CST 2.5
miles southwest of Purcell. The tornado moved along an 8 mile path and
dissipated 3 miles east northeast of Wayne at 1745CST. The tornado had
an average path width of 300 to 500 yards. Most damage was confined to
trees and crops, but 7 homes and several outbuildings received damage.
One home on U.S. Route 77 lost about 80 percent of its roof. At Route
77 a pickup truck was overturned and its lone occupant was thrown from
the vehicle. Other damage included downed high tension power lines, a
trailer bed blown about 100 yards, and a one ton propane tank blown and
rolled about 1/4 mile. The storm producing the tornado dropped tennis
ball to softball size hail across Mc Clain and southern Cleveland
Counties. A 14 year old Midwest City boy was injured by lightning. The
boy reached to turn off a television as lightning was striking the
mobile home he lived in. The surge of current knocked the boy across
the room, and he was hospitalized for injuries.

Severe thunderstorms developed along a cold front in northwest and
north central Oklahoma during the late afternoon of the 5th, and these
storms spread southeastward over the northeast, central, and southwest
portions of the state during the late evening of the 5th and the
morning hours of the 6th. These storms produced 7 tornadoes, hail to
near baseball size, flash flooding, and straight line winds to near 95
MPH causing an estimated $2,700,000 in damages. In addition many storms
contained frequent or continous cloud to ground lightning which
resulted in several fires and many power outages.
Tornadoes were reported 3 miles north of Chester, 4 miles northwest of
Seiling, 2 miles west of Chester, 2 miles west of Clinton, near Taloga,
1 mile west of Taloga, and 8 miles south of Taloga. The tornadoes were
all brief F0 touchdowns and no damage was reported, except for the
tornado 8 miles south of Taloga. This tornado passed close enough to a
grain elevator to pull grain out of it and scatter it around.
Significant damage, however, was caused by straight line winds from
severe thunderstorms in Norman. At Max Westheimer Field, winds at the
National Weather Service Forecast Office were measured at 85 MPH, while
1/2 mile to the north of the Forecast Office winds estimated at 95 MPH
damaged or destroyed 22 of the 42 aircraft at the the airport. Roof
damage was sustainted to the NWS Office, while the nearby Cleveland
County YMCA suffered significant window damage and some roof damage.
Damage to aircraft, buildings, and powerlines in the Norman area was
estimated at $2,700,000. Severe thunderstorm winds also caused roof
damage and destroyed a storage building in Vinita, downed power lines
in Cleveland, and blew a tree onto a car in Oilton. In Tulsa, strong
winds from a severe thunderstorm downed trees and powerlines and caused
damage and 1 injury at a festival. An eight year old girl suffered a
broken ankle at the festival in Tulsa when a 10 foot by 10 foot tent
was blown down on top of her by thunderstorm winds. Light towers and
other tents at the festival were damaged by the storm. Other damage
from severe thunderstorm winds was reported southeast of Douglas, where
trees were downed and a roof was taken off a house. At Perry light
poles were downed by the winds, and power poles were downed in Edmond.
Strong winds downed power poles and tore the roof off a trailer in
Tuttle, trees and signs were downed in Cyril, and in Lamar. Just east
of Elgin, trees were also downed by the strong winds. Lightning struck
a barn north-northwest of Perry, and the resulting fire destroyed the
barn and 700 bales of hay, and in Perry, lightning struck a house,
doing minor damage. Lightning also struck an oil tank battery in
Mustang and strarted it on fire.
Flash flooding from the heavy rains in the thunderstorms caused road
flooding in Carmen, and in Enid a Sheriff's Police Car was destroyed
when it was driven into flash flood waters.
