Dense Fog for the Center of the Nation; Severe Thunderstorms Across the South; Parade of Pacific Storms Continue

One question that is often asked is... What is the probability of a white Christmas?

The National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) has put together a chart that uses stations with at least 25 years or more of snow data.

The following chart using the 1981-2010 data shows that in our part of the country, we have a white Christmas less than 40% of the time.

In Omaha, the probability of a white Christmas (an inch or more of snow on the ground) is 33% (42 out of 126 years of snow records through 2018 using current data available).

Interesting Christmas Fact: The lowest record high temperature of the year at Omaha occurs on Christmas Day with 57 degrees set in 1946 (the lowest record high temperature of the year is shared with January 14th (1914) and 15th (1990)).
