Publications and Presentations


Below is a listing of recent publications - presentations completed by our staff members at the National Weather Service Office St. Louis MO. Many of these publications were presented at the AMS Conference on Severe Local Storms and National Weather Association Annual Meetings. We are very active in several local applied research studies to improve our forecasting skills in severe weather, winter weather, and heavy rainfall forecasting. A number of these papers resulted from collaborative work with Dr. Chuck Graves, Chad Gravelle and other graduate students from Saint Louis University. Recent applied research studies with Saint Louis University focus on heavy snowfall climatology within the WFO St. Louis Forecast Warning Area (CWA) and forecast Analogs. Other applied research studies and completion of papers resulted from collaboration with Dr. Nolan Atkins at Lyndon State College in Lyndonville Vermont and Dr. Jeff Trapp at Purdue University in West Lafayette Indiana. Much of this work keyed upon the evolution of Quasi-Linear Convective System (QLCS) cases and mesovortex structure over the Mid-Mississippi Valley region. We also continue two explore a number of algorithms with the Warning Decision Support System (WDSS-II) with Greg Stumpf and Travis Smith at the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) in Norman Oklahoma.
