After a dry September, significant rainfall fell in October across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. There was record rainfall across most of the area on the 14th, when 4.19" fell at Chicago-O'Hare, 1.80" in Rockford, and the NWS Cooperative Observer at Midway Airport 3SW reported 5.11". The two day totals for October 14-15th ended up with some areas across Cook, DuPage, DeKalb, Kane and Kendall counties having seven to just over nine inches of rain!

The average temperature for the month was 57.6 degrees which is 5.1 degrees above normal. During the month of October, 8.7 inches of precipitation were recorded, which is 5.55 inches above normal. A trace of snow was recorded, which is 0.2 of an inch below normal. One Top Ten Monthly Record: **2nd wettest October on record since 1871 with 8.7 inches. One record was set for Chicago for the month of October 2017 *Record daily precipitation of 4.19 inches on the 14th. At Rockford, the average high temperature was 64.6 degrees, which is 1.9 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 46.4 degrees, which is 5.7 degrees above normal. The average temperature for the month was 55.5 degrees, which is 3.8 degrees above normal. During the month of October, 5.85 inches of precipitation were recorded, which is 3.18 inches below normal.
