Overview & Graphics
April 2020 was cooler than normal overall after a mild start, driven especially by a mid month cold snap when there were a few accumulating snow events. This resulted in much of the area finishing the month well above normal snowfall wise and bringing the Fall-Spring seasonal snowfall closer to normal. Precipitation was below normal for most of the area until late in the month when there were two significant rainfall events. A swath from central Illinois to northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana finished with above normal rainfall due to these events. The April 28-29 rainfall event caused widespread river flooding in the affected areas.
