Temperatures were near to slightly below normal in October. Much of the area saw well-below normal precipitation for the month, though an axis of heavy rain from central Illinois into northwest Indiana on the 25th brought totals closer to normal there. October’s precipitation also included a trace of snow at both Rockford and Chicago on the 17th.

Chicago and Rockford...

At Chicago, the average high temperature was 63.9 degrees, which
is 1.2 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 44.2
degrees, which is 1.2 degrees below normal. The average
temperature for the month was 54.0 degrees, which is normal.
During the month of October, 1.66 inches of precipitation were
recorded, which is 1.77 inches below normal. A trace of snow was
recorded, which is 0.2 inches below normal.

Two daily records were set for Chicago during the month of October
2022:
* Tied record daily snowfall of a trace on the 17th.
* Tied record daily highest minimum temperature of 63 degrees on
  the 24th.


At Rockford, the average high temperature was 64.3 degrees, which
is 2.0 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 38.2
degrees, which is 3.6 degrees below normal. The average
temperature for the month was 51.2 degrees, which is 0.8 degrees
below normal. During the month of October, 1.52 inches of
precipitation were recorded, which is 1.11 inches below normal.
A trace of snow was recorded, which is 0.2 inches below normal.
