September featured persistent warmer than normal temperatures, especially in the middle to late portion of the month. It was also a very wet month. Heavy rain events in the early to mid month period focused primarily across far northern Illinois. In late September, there were multiple rain events affecting areas farther south, most significantly on September 27th when 4 to 8", locally as high as 9", fell across areas along and south of I-80. This caused significant flash flooding for the hardest hit areas. Several area rivers were in flood stage for a large portion of September.

2.1 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 61.9
degrees, which is 7.6 degrees above normal. The average temperature
for the month was 69.4 degrees which is 4.8 degrees above normal.
During the month of September, 7.61 inches of precipitation were
recorded, which is 3.21 inches above normal.

There was 1 record for Chicago for the month of September 2019:
* Record daily precipitation of 2.28 inches on the 27th.

At Rockford, the average high temperature was 76.8 degrees, which is
1.4 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was 60.2
degrees, which is 7.8 degrees above normal. The average temperature
for the month was 68.5 degrees, which is 4.6 degrees above normal.
During the month of September, 9.10 inches of precipitation were
recorded, which is 5.75 inches above normal.

* Record daily precipitation of 2.92 inches on the 12th.
