June 2021 Summary |
A look at precipitation totals from the last 7 days of June. Most of the area received 3"+ of rain, but other spots in far northern Illinois got less than an inch of rainfall during this period. |
The showers and thunderstorms observed in Chicago during the last two-thirds of the month was much unlike the rest of the first half of the calendar year, which had been relatively dry and thunderstorm-free. |
The heavy rainfall did enough to alleviate the drought conditions across a good chunk of the Chicago metro. However, the areas that were dealing with the worst drought conditions missed out on much of this rain, and as a result, much of far northern Illinois has ended the month of June under moderate to extreme drought conditions. |
