Overview

January 2025 saw temperatures below the long term normal, with a mild end to the month partially countering a very cold middle part of the month. Northern Illinois saw snowfall well below normal, with precipitation also running well below normal until a rain event erased much of the monthly deficit on the 30th and 31st. Precipitation and snowfall was near to even slightly above normal toward central Illinois.

Chicago and Rockford...

At Chicago, the average high temperature was 29.8 degrees, which
is 1.8 degrees below normal. The average low temperature was
15.5 degrees, which is 3.3 degrees below normal. The mean average
temperature for the month was 22.6 degrees, which is 2.6 degrees
below normal. 1.98 inches of liquid precipitation were recorded,
which is 0.01 inch below normal. 4.6 inches of snow were
recorded, which is 6.7 inches below normal.

No daily or top ten monthly records were set for Chicago during
this past January.


At Rockford, the average high temperature was 30.1 degrees, which
is 1.0 degrees above normal. The average low temperature was
10.5 degrees, which is 4.0 degrees below normal. The average
temperature for the month was 20.3 degrees, which is 1.5 degrees
below normal. 0.79 inches of liquid precipitation were recorded,
which is 0.81 inches below normal. 2.1 inches of snow were
recorded, which is 8.8 inches below normal.
