Remnants of Arthur and Heavy Rainfall Across the South; Fire Weather Threat in the West

Life-threatening, potentially catastrophic flash flooding expected along the central Gulf Coast as the remnants of Arthur track across the area. Isolated brief tornadoes and damaging gusts remain possible overnight in the Southeast. Overview

Memorial Day thunderstorms produced widespread large hail and wind damage across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.  There were five brief EF-0 tornadoes confirmed. See this Public Information Statement for the details. 

In addition to the severe weather, heavy rainfall and flooding were reported in many locations.  With the 1.92" of rain recorded at Chicago O'Hare, this set a daily record for precipitation for May 27th, as well as making it the wettest Memorial Day on record.
