Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. This weekend into next week, a series of atmospheric rivers will bring gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and mountain snow to northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Colder temperatures are in store for the weekend from the Great Lakes to East Coast. Read More >

Radar
NWS Chicago Doppler Radar reflectivity loop from midnight through 4 a.m. CST of an intense lake effect snow band into far northwest Indiana. The individual circulation structures are mesovortices that had generated on sharp convergent winds and lake-induced instability. This helped to focus and intensify snowfall as well as winds into far northwest Indiana. Along the shore, a gust in excess of 50 mph was observed. The intense snowfall rates (likely over 2" per hour) combined with the high winds created temporary whiteout conditions. |
