PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHICAGO IL
544 AM CDT WED OCT 23 2013 /644 AM EDT WED OCT 23 2013/

...EARLIEST ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL IN DECADES ACROSS PARTS OF NORTH
CENTRAL ILLINOIS...

A QUICK MOVING ALBERTA CLIPPER WEATHER SYSTEM BROUGHT A VERY EARLY
SEASON SNOWFALL TO SOME NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS COMMUNITIES. THIS
WAS ONE OF THE EARLIEST MEASURABLE SNOWFALLS ON RECORD FOR THESE
AREAS AND SNOW AMOUNTS VARIED FROM A FEW TENTHS TO AS MUCH AS TWO
INCHES ON GRASSY SURFACES.

PERU:

* OCT 22 2013 SNOWFALL: 1.0 INCH /ESTIMATED FROM PUBLIC/.
* THIS WAS THE SECOND EARLIEST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL ON RECORD SINCE
  1919.
* EARLIEST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL ON RECORD: OCTOBER 19-20 1989.
* LAST OCTOBER MEASURABLE SNOWFALL: OCTOBER 26-27 1997.
* THIS WAS THE SIXTH MEASURABLE SNOWFALL IN OCTOBER SINCE 1919
  YIELDING A RETURN FREQUENCY OF ABOUT ONCE EVER 15 YEARS.

POLO:

* OCT 22 2013 SNOWFALL: 0.8 INCH.
* THIS WAS THE FIRST OCTOBER MEASURABLE SNOWFALL SINCE OCT 26
  1997.

LOOKING AT DATA FROM SEVERAL OTHER COOPERATIVE OBSERVER SITES
ACROSS LASALLE...LEE...AND OGLE COUNTIES...ALL HAD NOT RECEIVED
MEASURABLE SNOW IN OCTOBER SINCE AT LEAST THE OCT 26-27 1997
EVENT...IF NOT EARLIER. WITH THIS SNOWFALL ON TUESDAY HAVING
OCCURRED EVEN SOONER...THIS LOOKED AS IF IT WAS THE EARLIEST
MEASURABLE SNOWFALL IN AT LEAST 20 PLUS YEARS FOR THAT AREA.
