Subject: New Forecast Services For:  

         James River at Boaz, MO 

         Current River at Powder Mill Campground

 

Beginning at 7 AM on Monday, May 2, 2022, NOAAs National Weather Service /NWS/ 

Office in Springfield, MO will begin River Forecast Services for two location 

in its hydrologic service area /HSA/: 

 

The James River at Boaz, Missouri - NWS Location Identifier /NWSLI/ -  JAMM7 

– Christian County

 

The Current River at Powder Mill Campground – NWSLI - PWDM7 

– Shannon County

 

The new services for these locations will assist recreational interests as well as 

enhance river forecasts for locations downstream. They will also aid the NWS mission

of protecting lives and property. Both locations experienced major flooding in late

April 2017.

 

At 7 AM CDT on May 2nd, NWS Springfield will begin to issue hydrologic products as

necessary that may include specific river forecasts. The hydrologic products are 

listed in the following table:

The NWS defines Flood Stage as the river level at which adverse impacts to life and/or 

property begin. 

 

At Boaz, the Flood Stage will be 10 feet. The Moderate Flood Stage will be 18 feet 

and Major Flood Stage will be 24 feet. Forecasts will be issued daily, and Flood 

Warnings will be issued when water levels are expected to reach or exceed the Flood 

Stage level of 10 feet. 

 

At Powder Mill, the Flood Stage will be 8 feet. The Moderate Flood Stage will be 25 

feet and the Major Flood Stage will be 40 feet. Forecasts will be issued either daily 

or when flood conditions are approached. Flood Warnings will be issued when water 

levels are expected to reach or exceed the Flood Stage level of 8 feet.
