Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from the central Plains to the Northeast through this evening. Widespread damaging winds are the primary threat but hail and a tornado or two is also possible. Searing heat and incredible dryness in September continued into early October, resulting in a flash drought. It was short-lived, though, as cooler weather and rain returned during the second half of October. By mid-November we were shivering with record cold and snow.
