There is a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms for the southwest portion of the state this afternoon and evening. In central Alabama, this includes areas such as Selma, Livingston, Carrollton, Greensboro, and surrounding communities. The primary threat is damaging wind gusts.
Afternoon heat index values will climb above 100 degrees across central Alabama by this weekend. The combination of heat and humidity will cause heat stress for those without adequate cooling and hydration. Practice heat safety if spending time outdoors.
