Violent Tornadoes (F4/EF4, F5/EF5) in Central and Southeast Illinois
Since 1880

While violent tornadoes (F4 or F5 on the old Fujita Scale, and EF4 or EF5 on the new scale) have occurred about two dozen times in the Lincoln NWS coverage area since the late 1880's, only two known F5-strength tornadoes have affected the area.  One occurred in Taylorville in 1880, and the other occurred in Lacon in 1942.

The information below is compiled from records by the National Centers for Environmental Information, as well as the book Significant Tornadoes 1680-1991, by Thomas P. Grazulis.  The magnitude is the highest value anywhere along the track.
