WINTER STORM WATCH: Areas along and north of I-10 are under a Watch this weekend. Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total ice accumulations between one tenth and three tenths of an inch possible across the entire watch area, with the highest accumulations in the Piney Woods and Brazos Valley. Slight sleet accumulations will be possible in the northern Piney Woods and Brazos Valley, but the primary concern will be freezing rain. Remember: WATCH = BE PREPARED. Don't wait—prep now! Protect your home & plan to stay off the roads if conditions deteriorate.
An Extreme Cold Watch has been issued from Saturday evening through early next week. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 to 15 possible, with the coldest values Sunday night into Monday morning. A hard freeze is also possible Saturday night and Sunday night with lows in the 10s to lower 20s. Some areas north of I-10 may remain below freezing all day on Sunday. Now is the time to prepare! Protect people, pets, plants and pipes from cold weather!
A powerful cold front will arrive late Friday into Saturday, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season. The cold air will overlap with some lingering moisture behind the cold front, leading to the potential for freezing rain or sleet Saturday into Sunday. Chances for freezing rain impacts are highest north of the Houston metro, but some chance of accumulating ice exists all the way down to Galveston! Because small changes in the forecast can result in big differences in expected wintry impacts, everyone in Southeast Texas needs to be keeping up with the latest forecast information heading into the weekend!
Dangerously cold wind chills are expected this weekend as an Arctic front moves through the area, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season. With an Extreme Cold Watch in effect from Saturday through early next week, wind chills are forecast to drop into the single digits for many areas on Sunday and Monday mornings. Now is the time to prepare: protect people, pets, plants, and pipes from the extreme cold.
The coldest conditions are expected late Sunday night into early Monday morning. Temperatures will likely plummet into the upper teens for inland areas and the upper 30s along the coast. A hard freeze is increasingly likely Sunday night, with wind chills potentially dropping into the single digits across parts of Southeast Texas. This graphic shows the probabilities for temperatures reaching critical thresholds of 32°F, 24°F, and 15°F.
