THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FEW STRONG LONG TRACK TORNADOES AND POTENTIALLY WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS OF THE GULF STATES NORTHWARD THROUGH THE OHIO VALLEY AND EASTWARD INTO THE APPALACHIANS THROUGH LATE EVENING. THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN ALABAMA NORTHWEST GEORGIA NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI SOUTHERN TENNESSEE A DANGEROUS SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK IS UNDERWAY ACROSS THE CENTRAL GULF STATES INTO PORTIONS OF THE TENNESSEE AND LOWER OHIO VALLEY. AS A STRONG WEATHER DISTURBANCE MOVES NORTHEASTWARD OUT OF THE OZARK PLATEAU REGION TOWARD THE GREAT LAKES THIS EVENING...AN UNSTABLE AIR MASS AND STRONG WIND FIELDS WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT LONG LIVED SUPERCELL STORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG TORNADOES...AND ORGANIZED STORM CLUSTERS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING STRONG DAMAGING WINDS. THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT IS EXPECTED TO PERSIST AFTER DARK THROUGH AT LEAST LATE EVENING...SPREADING NORTHWARD TOWARD THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY...AND EASTWARD INTO THE APPALACHIANS. STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
